A Stretch Class for Lovers of Dance & Classical Music, with Michael Parra
This class is like a slow dance, fluid and
continuous. The sequence is specific and
repeated; one the teacher has practiced for
over twenty-five years. There are no held postures; instead you melt into shapes as you would a warm bath. Although the warm-up is performed standing, the stretch series never leaves the floor; and while the intention is to elongate your limbs, the emphasis throughout is the position of your spine. As you stretch you’ll listen to and learn about the music and the lives of the great composers. This class is held in candlelight.
Instructor Michael Parra is a former professional ballet dancer turned fitness and Pilates trainer. Prior to his physical education, Michael was a
philosophy major, pianist, flautist and a student
of classical music composition.
LEADER
Mike Parra Mike Parra has been a personal fitness trainer and group exercise instructor for twenty years. He has been certified by both the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Mike began his career as a professional ballet dancer after graduating from the Marin Ballet School, and later founded his own Company, the NOMAD Dance Company. He is now a candidate for Pilates instructor, completing his certification through Integrated Teacher Training. Mike's philosophy: ”Work with what you got. Just like my clients, I struggle with my commitment to my body, and that means we can both use all the help we can get, it's best to welcome the support that partnership provides! Frankly, it’s a choice of self-respect over self-indulgence. What we really do here is celebrate the body and the life that we have been given. Let us take neither for granted.”
